Recommendation |
This is a good two-hour museum with an outstanding fossil room. |

This is a fairly small museum on the main campus of the University of Michigan. Despite its size it contains a really wide selection of interesting things.
The fossil room is full of bones from ancient creatures. I think the coolest part of the fossil room is the pteradon skeleton, but I also liked the two mastodon skeletons.
The museum also contains exhibits on Michigan animals, history, geology, and a small planetarium.
The gift shop is good to spend a little time in. It has a good selection of dinosaur puzzles and ancient stones.
Additional Review:
Dad: “This is a great FREE museum. It has quite a selection of dinosaurs and other extinct animals. I have been going here since I was a kid and it has really improved in its presentation in the last few years. This is one of the few places to see a coelacanth, although it is now a model since the original was degrading. I recommend this museum if you are in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.
Sam: "This museum has a wide variety of birds, including the passenger pigeon (extinct). Also, don't miss the mastodon tracks that can only be seen from the bird area."
