Recommendation

A very unique park with an emphasis on birds!

Review: by Sam

Just off the coast of Lake Erie lies a hidden sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.

Point Pelee Provincial Park is located about an hour East of Detroit, and a couple hours west of Toronto. It is the southernmost point in Canada. It consists of a small sliver of land jutting into the smallest of the Great Lakes.

When you are visiting Point Pelee make sure that you have at least a relatively nice day. Otherwise there might not be many birds out. We went on a very windy day and a lot of the birds just weren’t flying around. Along with this be ready to walk. If you want to get anywhere you are going to have to walk. In fact, the point is closed all seasons but winter. You have to park at the visitor’s center and take a bus to the point.

Don’t let these things deter you. This is a great park to explore, and I guarantee you will see plenty of wildlife. The boardwalk, which circles inside a large marsh area, is full of life.

If you want a place to satisfy the craving of even the most avid wildlife watcher, Point Pelee delivers.

Other Reviews:

Dad: Make sure to check under the observation tower. There are many barn swallows that nest there, and if you stand really still they will fly close to you as they hunt for insects and then return to the nest.
