A beautiful and fun neighborhood to walk in if you like Frank Lloyd Wright. |

Oak Park, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago. Oak Park is most famous for its architecture, most notably that of Frank Lloyd Wright. There are a number of his homes and buildings in a 6 block area. Most notably, you will be able to see the Frak Lloyd Wright home and studio, and the Unity Temple.
Being the Frank Lloyd Wright fan that I am, I was thrilled to be there. Within Oak Park there are more that forty Frank Lloyd Wright homes and buildings.
The self-guided walking tour allows you to see his progression as many of these are his early homes. The earlier homes were a more traditional style, but his later homes here are moving to the unique Prairie Style that Wright is famous for.
Oak Park has also been home to many famous and wealthy people. Ernest Hemmingway was born and lived much of his childhood here. This is also where the famous scientist Percy Julian made his home.
Oak Park is full of charm and diversity. It's proximity to Chicago makes this a good stop if you are in the Windy City. It is a beautiful town that is a treasure for anyone interested in architecture.

Dad: I just want to make it clear that people still live here. The only home that allows tours is Frank Lloyd Writght's home and studio. Since people are living their lives here it is important to visit this area quietly and with respect for those who have taken on the task of maintaining these architectural gems.
