A really nice place to picnic and unwind after a visit to the Science and Industry Museum.

Review: by Sam

The Jackson Park Osaka Garden is a serene sanctuary inside the urban jungle. It is amazing how quiet it is here even with Lake Shore Drive so close.

I was inspired by my visit to these Japanese gardens. I wrote a short book about a boy living in the Japanese gardens for a class I took in fifth grade.

The Japanese gardens are beautiful. The gardeners do a great job keeping he pond and gardens clean despite a major city being hidden behind the trees. Also it is a photographer's paradise. It is so close to the Science and Industry Museum and the neighborhood of Hyde Park, but you really feel like you are totally someplace else.

Oak Park is full of charm and diversity. It's proximity to Chicago makes this a good stop if you are in the Windy City. It is a beautiful town that is a treasure for anyone interested in architecture.

If you are looking for to get away from the city for a while and just go somewhere peaceful, you might consider a couple of hours in the Osaka Garden of Jackson Park.

Other Reviews:

Dad: This is in Jackson Park on Wooded Island. It is right off Lake Shore Drive, and only a short walk from the Science and Industry Museum. You can actually see the museum from the gardens.

Mom: The lagoons surrounding the island were dredged for the Columbian Exposition of 1893. The original landscaping was done by Frederick Law Olmstead, the landscape architect who designed Central Park (NYC) and the Biltmore Estate.
