This is where our trip to Hilton Head became great. Take a tour with the naturalists to get a feel for this spectacular island. |

Review: by Dad
Before we visited the Coastal Discovery Museum we were spinnning our wheels on Hilton Head. Sure there were great beaches and restaurants, but the kids wanted to do something a little more interesting than swim and eat. Everywhere we looked there were t-shirt shops and expensive stores. When we found this place, our vacation was filled with fun. We now wish we had found it a couple days earlier as we wished we could take a couple more tours.
The museum itself is a small place, with lots of interesting information about the local animal life. It only took a couple of hours to get through. It was interesting for our Midwestern kids to learn about tides and see a tide clock. The exhibit on sea turtles was excellent, and there were a lot of hands-on objects to allow the kids a real "feel" for the animals and plants of the coastal islands.
The tours, though, are the real draw here. We took an excellent beach walk with a naturalist. We could have spent many more hours there. Will found a live sand dollar, and the unique plant life was really interesting. We also schduled an excellent dolphin tour here.
This is a "must stop" for science-minded families on Hilton Head. Don't make our mistake. Stop here early and let them help you plan out the rest of your visit.

Sam: This is a fun little museum, but the tours are the best part.
