Review: by Mom
This beach is home of the Cape Florida Lighthouse. This is a beach that is frequented by the local population of Miami. When we were there it was pretty crowded, but you could find a place to hang out. As soon as we hit the water--- about 6:30 p.m.---- we saw 4 manatees swim by. They were 20 feet away from us! The people on the beach all cleared out of the water on the first sight of the big shadows under the water, but as soon as one surfaced we were sure they were manatees. With this knowledge we were able to go back into the water, but we did not. We followed them down the shore for a while. We had only been in Florida for 6 hours. There was adequate parking, restrooms, changing rooms and outdoor showers. Their were also crabs to look at. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne is a nice place to take your family for a day of swimming.
Additional Review:
Sam: “There are great views of Miami on the way back from this beach."
Dad: "It was wonderful to see the manatees, and the beach was nice. The park ranger said that the manatees were pretty frequent visitors to this beach. I am appalled, though, by the amount of litter that the people leave on the beach. How hard is it to use a trash can?"
