Perched on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Michigan is Adler Planetarium, Chicago’s largest and most popular planetarium. At the Adler Planetarium you can enjoy intergalactic learning along with stunning views of the city.

Adler has many activities for people of all ages. Will spent at least half an hour on the computers. One of my favorite things in the entire planetarium is the live images of the sun. Dad and I watched the solar flares for fifteen minutes and could have stayed longer.

The Adler Planetarium’s sky shows are wonderful. You can easily be enthralled by the star shows no matter how interested you are in astronomy. Finally, you can do a comparison of today’s technology and yesterday’s. The Artwood sphere, a sphere that had holes punched in it to represent the stars, was built in 1913. The planetarium has been restored, and you can take a ride into the sphere and see the stars. I will let them tell you the history, but it is well worth the time.

The Adler Planetarium has something for kids ages 8 to 80. It is a great place to spend the day.

Other Reviews:

Dad: We finally got to the planetarium and it was a wonderful time. Sam is right about the solar flares. I could have watched them all day. One other interesting fact is that the sundial on the grounds was designed by sculptor Henry Moore. Adler Planetarium is part of the Museum Campus of Chicago. Also within walking distance are Shedd Aquarium and The Field Museum.
